Homeschool Opinions: What is your favorite movie?

The Homeschool Opinions question for the February/March issue is:

Tell us what is– in your opinion– the best movie  ever! Just write a few sentences that talk about why you like it and what it is about. We suggest that you add an age level recommendation to any movie that you think you need to.

Then leave a comment on this post and include your name and age, and it may be featured in the next issue of BTH!

Here are some samples :

My favorite movie is Lady and the Tramp. It’s a cute story about a little dog named Lady who lives with her owners “Jim Dear” and “Darling.” One day, after her owners have a new baby, Lady must stay at home with her “aunt” and her two mean Siamese cats. When Lady gets blamed for the mess that the cats make, she must wear a muzzle! Lady runs away, and embarks on an adventure with Tramp, a feisty dog who doesn’t have an owner, and the two begin to fall in love. It’s a great story for all ages, especially if you love dogs!

Allie, age 9

My favorite movie is Star Wars Episode IV! It’s about a boy named Luke who lives on the planet Tatooine in a galaxy far, far away. When he meets a mysterious old man named Ben Kenobi, he discovers that his father Anakin was a Jedi knight who protected the galaxy from the evil Sith. So begins Luke’s adventure to become a Jedi, an action packed story full of great characters including the evil Darth Vader, the cocky Han Solo, and my favorite heroine, Princess Leia! I would recommend Episode IV for ages 9+, but some of the other episodes, like Episode III, I would recommend for older viewers.

Posy, age 15

Please note that if we select a comment with a typo/error, we will spell-check it in BTH.

  1. My favorite movie is Kung Fu Panda. It’s about a panda named Po, who works in his dad’s restraunt, but dreams of meeting his favorite Kung Fu warriors, The Furious Five. He ends up going to the Jade Palace to see the Dragon Warrior, but it ends up being HIM! His master keeps trying to get rid of him, but he finally realizes that Matser Uguay picked wisely. Po ends up fighting an old student of his master’s who wants the Dragon Scroll. It’s super funny, because Jack Black is Po.

  2. My favorite movie is Clueless! It’s a hilarious movie about a spoiled Beverly Hills teenage girl who has no trouble finding love for the people around her, but when it comes to her own love life, she’s, well, clueless. Alicia Silverstone plays Cher, the main character, and Clueless is a modern take on Jane Austen’s book Emma, too.

  3. My fave movie is Raiders of the Lost ark. It’s amazing!Basically, the story is:
It’s 1936. Hitler is rising to power- and he wants the Ark of the Covenant because he thinks it will make him powerful. After Indy returns home from his search for the Capochyan idol(love the boulder scene!),the American Government hires him,the famous archaeologist Dr. Jones, to find it before the Nazi’s do- and to figure out what’s going on. Can Indy triumph over the forces of evil? He heads to his old friend Abner Ravenwood, a collector of Ark-related artifacts, to find out. He tracks Abner down to a remote bar in Nepal, only to find Abner’s dead, and his feisty, beautiful daughter Marion (who happens to be Indy’s ex-girlfriend from when he was younger.) is stuck running the bar. She won’t help Indy, and so he leaves. The Nazis arrive, start a fight, and nearly kill Marion but Indy heard the noise, returned, and saved her. You go, Indy! There’s a big fight between Nazis/Indiana/Sherpas/Mongolians, but Indy and Marion win. Of course! :)Marion says she’ll help Indy,so, they head to Egypt to meet his friend Sallah. They find the Nazis digging for the Ark, but realize they’re digging in the wrong place. *Spoiler Alert* Marion is kidnapped by the Nazi’s main man, Belloq. Indy thinks she’s dead, but.. she’s not! Indy finds the ark, only to have Belloq steal it from him and then Belloq locks Indy and Marion in the Well of Souls, were the Ark was. They escape from a snake filled chamber. After a fight scene,(We fast forward a little of this scene), Indy sends Marion and Sallah off to get transportation to America and announces he’s off to find the Ark. There is a spectacular fight between Indy and a bunch of Nazi vehicles! It was soo good! They eventually recover the Ark, and Indy and Marion get on a boat with it to head back to America. There is a long kissing scene we also fast forwarded. Suddenly, the Nazis take over the ship. Indy manages to escape but they take Marion. Indy rides atop their submarine to their secret island, where, after a failed attempt form Indy to stop, them, they open the Ark. Definitely fast forward this scene! The wrath of God destroys the Nazis rather graphically. Indy and Marion get the Ark and head home.
All in all, I give it 5 stars, although there were a few(4) bad words and the two objectionable scenes I mentioned. Other than that, I really enjoyed the movie!

  4. My favorite movie is Return of the Jedi.
It is the last movie in the Star Wars series (Episode VI), and it’s super good.
In Episode V, the Empire Strikes Back, Han Solo was put into carbonite, and the rebels were losing fast. Now, Princess Leia, Luke Skywalker, Chewbacca, R2-D2, C-3PO, and Lando Calrissian must work together to free Han.
But that isn’t all their troubles. Darth Vader is building a new Death Star, which must be destroyed, and with it, Darth Vader.
Luke Skywalker learns some startling news about his family, and then he must face Darth Vader.
Who will win? A battle between Jedi and Sith, father and son.

  5. Sorry about that. I’m 11.

  6. Hi! My name is Katie and I am 12 years old. My favorite movie is King Kong (2005 version). It is a remake of the original 1933 movie (which I also like) that was made by director Peter Jackson. He is a huge fan and collector of memorabilia from the original movie. Although there are some parts which I don’t really like (the Islanders), I think it is a great movie. The special effects are awesome! It is about a huge gorilla who is taken from his island home and escapes in New York City to find the woman – Ann Darrow – who has become his friend. It is rated PG-13 for language, violence, and some disturbing images. I watched it for the first time when I was 11.

  7. My favorite movie is The Hobbit. We went to see it in theaters and I loved it. It features Bilbo Baggins, a hobbit who is called away out of his comfortable hobbit hole to go on an adventure by the strange wizard Gandalf. He joins 13 dwarves on a quest to retrieve their lost glory – dwarf gold. It was stolen by the fierce and terrible dragon Smaug. They encounter trolls, goblins and a mysterious ring on their way to face the dragon. But the way to the dragon lays hidden. Will they be able to find the gold? Will they ever retrieve their lost heritage?

  8. One of my many favorite movies is “The Adventures Of Tintin” This animated film is based of of the comic book, The Unicorn. it’s very enjoyable and has lots of excitement! Tintin is a red haired reporter in Europe who buys a model ship called the Unicorn. This model ship contains a secret scroll. That scroll, with two others hidden in similar model ships, led to a treasure. Tintin meets new characters and shares this awesome adventure with you. I would say that 11+ would only really enjoy Tintin. There are some scary parts and guns involved.

By the way, I am 14
