You can either write an article about the topic of your choice, submit a story, submit a paper you wrote for homeschool-work, or write for one of our monthly columns. If you have a new idea, submit that, too! You can also submit your picture for a chance to be a cover model. Remember, not all articles, pictures, etcetera, can be chosen, but we at BTH make sure that we try our hardest to include as many as we can!

ARTICLE AND STORY SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:

Write a one-and-a-half to four-page article or story. It can be either fiction or non-fiction and about the topic of your choice, as long as it…

  • Is family-friendly– no bad words, inappropriate content, etc.
  • Is really one-and-a-half to four-pages long- not filled up with a really large font
  • Pictures are optional, but if you can include pictures, great! Just be sure that they are not copyrighted and that they are your own original drawings, photographs, etc. Please send in jpeg format.

COVER SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

Want to be a cover model? You may send in a picture ( as high-quality as you can manage) of either just yourself, you and a few friends, or even a group of people, and we will consider its acceptance for one of our issue covers! Please also send your name and age as well. Pictures really do not work on the covers unless they are a landscape picture. Not all cover photos can be selected, but we sometimes use submissions that we cannot use on a cover within the issue.

MONTHLY COLUMN SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:

Submit a half-a-page to two-page family-friendly article about any of the following topics:

  • What Did You Do Today– write about something you did today
  • What Did You Do for Homeschool Today– write about something that you did for homeschool, whether a project or a trip
  • Your Homeschool Space– write about your favorite place to do your homeschool work
  • Monthly Bookmark– draw a cool bookmark for the end of the magazine. All you need to do is submit your name and draw the bookmark- you don’t need to include any story. Please send in jpeg format.
  • Pictures and Arts- Send in your cool picture, poem, cool word, drawing, painting, or anything you can think of! No required word amount. Please send in jpeg format.

For all submissions, send in your name and age. Parents are also welcome to send in articles  (excluding the Monthly Column articles) as long as they write that they are a parent.

  1. I think you should have a pet’s corner column. Where you feature a different home schoolers pet each issue. I have a bunny and would find it interesting to read about other peoples pets.

  2. Would love to see this mag. promoted on Ohio Virtual academy. Would also really like to see articles & info on teen topics, as our daughter is in 9th grade at OHVA.

    • Could you give me the link to the Ohio Virtual Acadamy? Sounds like a great idea. Also, the magazine is meant for kids about 16 or so and younger. The founders are in 9th and 10th grade, as are other contributors, so the articles they write should be interesting to other 9th graders.

  3. I think you should have a book review column where kids could review their favorite books. It would be a great way to hear about what other people are reading.

    • That is a good idea- actually, we already have something like that. We have a column called, “Books about Homeschooled Kids” where we review books with homeschooled kids in them, but we accept others’ reviews as well. If anyone would like to review any kind of book, we welcome this too- we just had a great submission of a Charlotte’s Web book review! So anyone is welcome to submit their book reviews whenever they like!

  4. So far, I love BTH! It’s really cool and I’m glad I’m not the only one that’s homeschooled. It can get pretty boring without classmates like I was used to while I was in public school. I almost miss some annoying kid sitting next to me trying to cheat off my test. Even though they shouldn’t have been cheating in the firswt place, it was fun to hide my paper from them and watch them turn away. *evil grin*
I also like Lucie’s idea. I love reading and writing and I’d love to see what other girls about my age think about books I have or haven’t read. But maybe instead of just books, there could be something for all types on entertainment: movies, TV shows, books, music, plays, etc. That’s be really cool to read.

    • We’re so glad that you love BTH! We’ll see about getting more reviews in BTH, and also for different things besides just books, but to get this started we need people to submit them to us! You can start by submitting something yourself, and tell your friends to, as well. Then maybe that will get other readers starting to do the same thing!

  5. I would really like it if you could do a Pen Pal page. Readers could send in their name, age and address and their interests, so that people who want to be their Pen Pal can write to them!
If there was a Pen Pal page, I’d really like to be on it!

    • Great idea- thanks to you, we’re getting one started! Check out the new BTH pen pal page!

    • If it’s okay, we’d like to write about you in the next BTH issue, since it was your idea to create the Pen Pal page! Do you want to send us your age and maybe a picture so we can write about you?

  6. Could people submit poetry? I would definitely be interested.

  7. Thank you sooo much for putting me in the newest BTH magizine!!! THANKS!!!

  8. I think you guys should have an advice column. omg i would so love to help out with that!

  9. I think you should find new (or old) home-schoolers and interview them so we can meet other home-schoolers our age! (I never meet anyone)

  10. I think you should have a story in it written by a homeschooler/homeschoolers. It could be like one chapter per magazine. And I would love to do that!
